WHO NEEDS COLOR VISION TESTING?

Effective Jan. 1, 2025 the rules around color vision have changed considerably. All new applicants require an FAA approved computerized color vision test. Once you have passed this, you never need to take another color vision test again. If you have previously passed the older color vision test which we used to administer each exam, then you DO NOT need to take the new color vision test during any future exam. If you have a Third Class certificate with a SODA or limitation for night flying or flying by light gun signals and wish to upgrade to a Second or First Class, you will need to take the new color vision test.

Do you handle complex Exams?

Absolutely. We have the experience, knowledge, expertise and patience to handle any Condition Airmen Can Issue (CACI), Special Issuance (SI), AME-Assisted Special Issuances (AASI), or Statement of Demonstrated Ability (SODA) you may have. Dr. Freitas also handles HIMS cases, specifically focusing on mental health.

How do I prepare?

Complete your FAA MedXpress Form online and bring the printed application with you or email it to our office in advance of your appointment. Collect any and all necessary medical records from your treating physicians. Ensure you have any Special Issuance or Statement of Demonstrated Ability (SODA) paperwork with you. Consider seeing an optometrist to ensure you have an updated prescription for glasses or contacts if needed. Bring your glasses/contacts with you to the office.

What Records do I need to Bring?

If you are uncertain what records to bring, we strongly recommend booking a consultation prior to your exam as we can help review your medical history and recommend what you will need to bring in order to optimize your chances of successfully leaving your examination appointment with a certificate.

Do I need to provide a Urine Sample?

The FAA requires applicants to provide a urine sample for every aviation medical examination. The purpose of this sample is to look for glucose and albumin in your urine to screen for diabetes. It is not a drug test. Please come to the office ready to provide a sample.

Should I bring my glasses?

The FAA requires all applicants to take a basic vision test. Please bring your glasses or contacts with you if necessary. Consider seeing your optometrist or ophthalmologist prior to your appointment to ensure you have the correct strength prescription.
